Comedy Show Fundraiser
The comedy show fundraiser held at the Cloverleaf Tavern on March 13th was a great success. Leadership Kitsap raised $980 towards their project in support of the 9/11 memorial committee. CK Fire and Rescue was also on hand to provide information about the project and they raised an additional $1400 for the memorial fund. Everyone in attendance was able to hear Roy Lusk share about Buck Buchanan's recent visit to the New York Port Authority to take view of the steel that has been designated for the memorial. Roy held back tears as he shared the story of Peter Miller who has been working closely with Roy on acquiring the steel. Mr. Miller was in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and during the 1993 bombing. Every story is personal, touching and worth sharing. The project's personal touch is shown in every event held by the committee.
Leadership Kitsap - Education Project
Students from WWU campus in Bremerton received a grant from the North Kitsap Art Board to cover the costs of materials and supplies to be used in conjunction with Leadership Kitsap on a 9/11 education project. The students from WWU along with Leadership Kitsap members have developed curiculum to be used with a fifth grade class at each of the five districts within Kitsap County. As part of the project students will be painting tiles to express their feelings on heroism that will be incorporated into the memorial.
